What pink feels like

January 09, 2016 by Annabel Hawkins

You haven’t seen your friend in two years
and she is coming home again.
Pastel pants you tricked your eyes into fitting
properly – we’ll leave this one to the mannequin.
Surprise messages from someone you forgot knew you.
Bubbly wine in a cheap bottle that spills
and stays sticky on your hands.
Proud, parent eyes looking at you.
Bare-shouldered grass sits on Saturdays.
Mac-stained lipstick rims from the night before.
Nine thirty on a school night, and we’re still out

side by side.
