Ruminations of a 20 something

Wondering

how leaving is a warm embrace
of what once was a thing
and now
it has gone.
You decided the tides should change or
they shifted for you.
The warm embrace and now the cold.
Always best to take a jacket with you.
Just in case.

Change

That thing we hold just far enough
in front to keep us moving forward.
The carrot and the cart.
The Balinese beads dangling
from your rearview mirror
as we drive.
Hands on the wheel,
covered in jewels.
The sky is open,
plane silhouettes ahead.

Moving

From one place to the other.
You are. I am
still here
while I work out where
‘there’ is in the meantime.

In the meantime,
I guess we better make it count.
