Animals and dream scenarios
Simon and Ruby’s friends are throwing a dress up party and we're trying to decide what to wear.
In between bites of tacos and necks of craft beer we negotiate the animal kingdom and what we can wrangle from a quick trip to Big W. 'Red panda? Someone told me I look like a red panda once' . The bartender interjects - ‘everyone will go as a unicorn. That’s like, everyone’s dream animal’. We order another round and laugh with the lady behind the bar about the art of a good tostada and I loll to the tram home, over the river back to my house.
That evening my new job description arrives and we’re back-and-forthing over the nuts and bolts of things; what I’ll actually be doing and what they think that’s worth. I wonder if I could continue to evade reality for a while...maybe I can ask the taco shop lady if she can teach me Spanish as she cooks, serve beers and be around those bright, Mexican lights instead. My phone rings - ‘Timing’, my new boss says. ‘I went to bed the night before you emailed me thinking ‘we need someone new and spectacular'. And there you were. You're like our magical unicorn’ she says and sends me a picture just to make sure I know what she is talking about.
