Paradise never lasts forever

Paradise never lasts forever.

Like ultimate loves and two worlds aligning -
a well-timed tide for almost half a decade.

Friend. You broke up and it breaks my heart: you
alone on this tiny island, swimming in sad. When I
visited I'd thought it was too picturesque to be true.

Me, single and cynical. You, watching the
ocean ferry your love back and forth each day,
over the sea and across the bay, counting time
till the last one came and prised you two apart.

But you share everything: your bed, your towels
and forks, rituals, rent and repeats. Runs on Saturdays,
yoga Thursdays, a little boat on the jetty with two oars.

And then the birdsong at the bottom of your driveway
broke the silent sinking tide. And the ferry keeps going

and the days keep turning, and I want you to know

you're not alone.
